Course Outline:
This course will be a "teach & do" format where you will learn in class and go to the gemba to observe and document a changeover process, identify improvements, and implement changes to reduce set up and changeover time in a step-by-step manner. The course will cover:
- Quick Changeover Overview
- How Quick Changeover supports a Lean manufacturing system
- What is SMED?
- The four types of Quick Changeover techniques
- The seven rules of thumb for SMED
- How to perform direct process observation for measuring changeover time
- Video observation and analysis
- Use of Quick Changeover templates
- How to separate internal and external work elements and times
- The Pit Crew concept

- Explain the four types of Quick Changeover techniques
- Explain SMED
- Explain the importance of Standard Work for a Lean manufacturing
