Production Preparation Process (3P)
Course Outline:
This course will be a "teach & do" format where students will learn how to:
- Design products based on Lean principles
- Design production processes based on Lean principles
- Look to nature for design solutions
- Balance operator cycle time, takt time, and machine cycle time
- Evaluate and test multiple process options using a Lean criteria
- Use the moonshine method to Trystorm your ideas
- Build life size cardboard mocks ups to improve their design before construction
Learning Objectives:
Upon the successful completion of this course, students will demonstrate their ability to:
- Explain the difference between traditional production preparation and approaches and 3P
- Keep the voice of the customer from getting lost in the process
- Use a Process At A Glance format
- Use the 7 Alternatives method for brainstorming
- Use life-sized cardboard models to evaluate layout options in 3D
- Use the 16 catchphrases of equipment design
