Course Outline:

This course will be a "teach & do" format where students will learn how to:

• Design layouts based on Lean principles
• Improve process flows based on Lean principles
• Look to nature for design solutions
• Balance operator cycle time, takt time, and machine cycle time
• Evaluate and test multiple process options using a Lean criteria
• Use the moonshine method to Trystorm your ideas
• Build life size cardboard mocks ups to evaluate and improve design in 3D

Learning Objectives:

Upon the successful completion of this course, students will demonstrate their ability to:

• Understand the difference between traditional process design approaches and the 3P approach
• Keep the voice of the customer from getting lost in the process
• Understand and use a Process At A Glance format
• Use the 7 Alternatives method for brainstorming
• Use life-sized cardboard models to evaluate layout options in 3D
• Understand and use the 16 catchphrases of equipment design
