Gemba Research is a Lean consulting company established in 1998 by Jon Miller and Brad Schmidt. Beginning with only 2 people in the USA, Gemba grew to over 50 people in 6 countries by 2011.

After many years of informal cooperation between individuals and regional offices, Kaizen Institute Consulting Group contacted Gemba Research in the summer of 2010 to discuss joining forces as one team.

In January 2011 the Gemba Research operation officially merged into Kaizen Institute. The Gemba operations in the USA, China, Japan and Singapore became new Kaizen Institute business units, while Gemba resources in Europe and Latin America were integrated into existing Kaizen Institute business units.

The joining of Gemba and Kaizen has allowed the two firms to secure a stronger global network, strengthen its management team, expand service offerings to clients and take a leadership role in global continuous improvement strategy.

The founders of Gemba Research are now partners and officers of the global Kaizen corporation.
